Bhaskar-Bharti on Sony TV

On June 21, 2009 in Bhaskar Bharti, Comedy, Drama, Hindi Serial, Sony, TV, Video

I don’t think that this is an original idea (about a man turning into a woman due to divine intervention), but this is still a new concept for Indian TV, and so far is working out (although at some time, the serial creators will want to stretch the serial, and that is when the story will start becoming painful). Bhaskar Bharti started on Sony TV on May 25, 2009, and is created by the long running creative group of Deeya Singh and Tony Singh.
Bhaskar is with a media company, and is a hotshot and well acclaimed professional. He is a serial womanizer, who ditches girl-friends all over the place. It is one of these women who cry out that Bhaskar should become a girl so that he realizes what a woman has to face, and it is through divine intervention that Bhaskar converts into a girl, called Bharti.

Hans Baliye – comedy performed by the stars

On June 10, 2009 in Comedy, Competition, Contest, Hans Baliye, Hindi Serial, Reality Show, Star One, TV, Video

When you think of Hans Baliye, what comes to your mind ? Nach Baliye, the dance show of TV stars (and others), where famous people from different areas come to display their dancing prowress (and which the famous footballer), Baichang Bhutia won this time. Well, Hans Baliye seems like something similar, given that this also involves famous people (and with both members of the couple being famous is also a common theme).
Hans Baliye occurs on Star One (although if it becomes popular, it will no doubt move to Star Plus). Hans Baliye has started very recently, with the first episode being shown on May 31, 2009. Initial episodes with couples had all of them using the concept of humour within a marriage to make their mark.
The judges for the show are Karishma Kapoor and David Dhawan (both of whom have been involved in many movies that were slightly raunchy comedies). Hosts for the show are Sunil Grover and Gaurav Gera. The couples taking part are:

Movie: Lage Raho Munnabhai – continuation of the Munnabhai series

On February 24, 2009 in Bollywood, Character, Classic, Comedy, Corruption, Mafia, Movie, Romance, Society, Song, Video

With the success of Munnabhai MBBS, it was clear that there would be a sequel, it was just waiting for the sequel to come. And so came the sequel in 2006, called Lage Raho Munnabhai (carry on Munnabhai). The movie starred the main set of 2 characters, Munnabhai (Sanjay Dutt) and his sidekick Circuit (Arshad Warsi). The movie showcases the story of a ruffian who becomes infused with Gandhian ideals (under the influence of the spirit of Gandhi), and tries to share the same with others around him, mixed with a Mumbai type way of speaking.
Sanjay Dutt is Munnabhai, a Mumbai don who indulges in the familiar show of force, and employs muscles to get his work done. He is also infatuated with a local radio jockey Janhavi (Vidya Balan) and wants to get to meet her. However, how to get a ruffian to meet a beautiful radio jockey is not easy to visualize, and then he hears of a contest where the first person to answer multiple questions asked by her gets to meet her. The contest is about answering questions on Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu), and this is where the mix with Gandhian ideology starts to happen.

Munnabhai MBBS – Sanjay Dutt’s comic role

On February 01, 2009 in Bollywood, Classic, Comedy, Movie, Romance, Song, Video

Munnabhai MBBS (released in 2003) was a movie that gave a new lease of life to the career of Sanjay Dutt. His depiction of a hood / gangster with a heart of gold (it helped that they did not show almost any depiction of violence from his end) earned a lot of applause, and most viewers empathized with the character. Add in a humorous side-kick called circuit (played pretty well by Arshad Warsi), and you have a movie that did incredibly well, spawning multiple sequels (the released ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and the yet-to-be-released ‘Muhhabhai Chale America’). The movie was also very different from anything that had a Vidhu Vinod Chopra touch (he has always made intense, emotional movies); this could be because Chopra was not the director, the movie being directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
