Dhoom (2004) – the action thriller

On April 05, 2009 in Action, Bollywood, Crime, Legal, Movie, Music, Police, Song, Video

Indian movies had seldom seen movies like these – a high voltage running chase between some smart thieves and a great policeman who pursues them to the bitter end. If a movie can be scripted and directed to be slick, it can be fairly impressive, and Dhoom was that. Don’t expect any great script, any major story or message, but if you want an action flick that is fast and furious, then this is a movie certainly worth watching. Obviously, none of the characters of the movie are known for their excellent emoting abilities, but then they were not expected to do so. So, throw in some great action sequences, skin show, and fast songs, and you can have a movie that is bound to be a hit, and so Dhoom was (one measure of a movie being a hit is that there is a sequel soon, and so Dhoom2 came out just 2 years later).

Tripti is back in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

On July 08, 2008 in Character, Drama, Family, Hindi Serial, Legal, Revenge, Saas-Bahu, Star Plus, TV, Values

After Tripti faced a court case and was shown to have become crazy, it would seem that she had exited from the serial. However, she is probably the one to have made the quickest re-entry. Hardly had the entire issue about Mandira and Juhi Thakral died down that the serial brought forward the old issue of KT, Ansh’s son Eklavya and the return of Lakshya from his forced trip abroad (when KY got married to Eklavya).
Anyhow, Lakshya is back, and one was never sure about what KY wanted. She was not exactly very enthused about having Eklavya as her husband, and he is insanely jealous; but she is traditional and Eklavya is after all her husband; so she counsels Lakshya that there is no point cribbing about the past. Lakshya must move on, and he does in a very quick way.
Lakshya had gone for a wedding along with Joydeep (one no longer knows what the relationship of Joydeep with Bhumi is, they don’t focus on that anymore), and there he encounters his friend getting fresh with the to-be-bride Vaidelhi and she does not appreciate even her would-be husband trying this with her before marriage. So she fights back, and Lakshya helps her. When faced with the issue about who will marry her now, Lakshya steps forward and marries her, and then returns to ShantiNiketan.

Murder (2004): Almost a classic movie

On November 22, 2007 in Bollywood, Crime, Detective, Family, Legal, Melody, Movie, Music, Police, Revenge, Romance, Song, Values

Murder was not the debut movie for either Mallika Sherawat or Emraan Hashmi (debut movies being Khwaish for Mallika and Footpath for Imraan Hashmi), but this was the movie that gave a big boost to their film career, and also set their reputations (something that got repeated in future films). So Mallika got the reputation of being ready to do sexy roles involving hot scenes, exposure, kissing, and similar such characteristics, and Emraan got the reputation of a serial kisser. The movie was directed by Anurag Basu under the tutelage of Mahesh Bhatt, and there are signs of the Bhatt effect showing through. The movie is based on the English movie ‘Unfaithful’. It does have some great songs and hummable music, and overall is a watch at least once. However if you are watching with family and are hesitant about bold scenes, then don’t watch. The movie has bold scenes where required, and does not hesitate to shock in the story about a neglected wife having an affair with a former lover. The movie has music by Anu Malik, and lyrics are by Sayeed Quadri and Rahat Indori.

Murder Hindi Movie

The movie is different from the usual murder story, and also different from the run of the mill ‘B’ class movie that seek to titillate the viewer with hot and racy sex scenes. The movie is from a top banner, and presents the story of what happens in a family when a partner starts to feel neglected, and the difference being that the movie does not hesitate in showing some bold sex scenes. Hence, a number of scenes of adultery and betrayal of the marital bond of trust; but with a difference, the innate love between the husband and wife is enough to finally get them out of the mess that they land up in.

Songs: Hum Na Samjhe The (Gardish)

On September 09, 2007 in Action, Bollywood, Crime, Despair, Legal, Movie, Music, Police, Society

In 1993, Priyadarshan made a movie called Gardish that starred the cast of Jackie Shroff, Amrish Puri, Dimple Kapadia, and Aishwarya (a different one). The movie was a remake of the 1989 Malayalam blockbuster, Kireedam. It provided Jackie Shroff a good platform with a very strong role, that caused him to display a lot of emotions. In my opinion, he did a very good role. Music Director was R D Burman, and lyrics were by Javed Akhtar.
The role was simple, he did the role of the son of a police constable (Amrish Puri), and his father wants him to join the police force as an inspector. One of the requirements is that he should not have a case against him. One day, Jackie finds his father being beaten up by the local goonda Mukesh Rishi, and intervenes. Even though he does not want it, he gets a reputation of being the goonda, and soon his father throws him out of the house. He is very desperate, and in great despair. At this time, his lady love also gets married and Dimple gives him some support.
The climax of the movie is when his sister gets kidnapped by Mukesh Rishi, and then his father delivers him to Mukesh Rishi and tells Jackie not to fight back. However, as Jackie is getting beaten to a pulp, his father is unable to take it and tells him to fight back. Jackie fights back and eventually kills him. At this stage, he confronts his father as to when Amrish Puri could not take Jackie getting beaten, how could Jackie earlier take Amrish Puri getting beaten. He is taken away by the police, his dreams in tatters.
